Adult ADHD Assessments in Houston and Across Texas

A lot of adults with ADHD spent years being told they were lazy, scattered, too sensitive, or not trying hard enough. Some got a diagnosis as a kid and then lost any support once they became adults. Some have never been assessed at all and have just been quietly struggling, wondering why things that seem easy for other people feel so hard.

An assessment gives you clarity. Not a label, clarity. Understanding what's actually going on in your brain is the starting point for getting the right support, whether that's medication, therapy, accommodations at work, or just finally having language for something you've experienced your whole life.

What the assessment includes:

The assessment is a clinical interview and standardized testing process that looks at attention, executive functioning, emotional regulation, and how your symptoms show up across different areas of your life. It's not a one-size-fits-all checklist. ADHD presents differently in adults, and especially differently in women and people who were socialized to mask.

At the end, you receive a written report with your results, a clear explanation of what they mean, and recommendations for next steps.

Who this is for:

Adults who suspect they have ADHD and want a formal evaluation. Adults who were diagnosed as kids but want an updated assessment. Adults who have been misdiagnosed with anxiety or depression and want to rule ADHD in or out. Adults who are high-functioning but exhausted by how hard they have to work to stay on top of things.

I'm neurodivergent myself. This isn't an area I approach from the outside.

  • The Adult ADHD evaluation process typically consists of two main parts:

Part One: ADHD Assessment Interview (3 hours)

During this comprehensive session, you can expect:

A thorough clinical interview exploring your symptoms, history, and current challenges

Completion of standardized assessment forms such as the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale, Russell Barkley's Adult ADHD Rating Scales, and other assessments.

Discussion of your educational history, including any available school records.

Exploration of how symptoms impact various areas of your life (work, relationships, daily tasks).

To prepare, jot down the issues or symptoms you're experiencing and areas where you're struggling. This will help you provide comprehensive information during the interview.

Part Two: Written Assessment and Analysis

Following the initial interview, the evaluator will:

    Analyze your assessment results

Review any additional assessments from family or friends

Potentially contact or interview your loved ones and/or healthcare provider

Spend 4-6 hours writing and reviewing a comprehensive assessment report

You'll receive this detailed written evaluation, which includes:

A summary of the findings from your assessment

Insights from interviews with your loved ones or healthcare providers (if applicable)

Professional analysis and recommendations tailored to your specific needs

The entire process ensures a thorough evaluation of adult ADHD, incorporating both your self-reported information and observations from others who know you well. This comprehensive approach allows for a more accurate and holistic assessment of adult ADHD.
